HOW TO SURVIVE CHRISTMAS BEING THE FIT?

Christmas, season of delicacies!

Christmas is a time when carols are constantly being played, tables are filled with delicious dishes and there’s always someone insisting you try more turkey. If you’re someone who’s always looking to stay fit and healthy, here’s a fun (and realistic) guide to enjoying the holidays without losing your fit style. 💪🎄

1. PROUDLY ACCEPT YOUR ROLE OF BEING FIT

You don’t have to feel uncomfortable about being the fit of the group. If they already know you go to the gym at 7am or you’re looking for healthier alternatives, make the most of it! Be the example to follow without being lectured. A smile and an “I feel great like this’ is enough to silence any critic.

Key tip: If they insist too much, joke that you’re training to carry the world’s biggest Christmas tree. 🎅

2. TACTICS FOR THE CHRISTMAS TABLE

Dinners and meals are something you can’t avoid, but here’s a plan of action:

– Choose your meals carefully: If you know there will be delicious meals, avoid trying the most caloric ones.

– Follow the 80/20 rule: Consume 80% healthy foods and set aside 20% for your whims. Yes, that piece of panettone is 20%. 😉

– Drink water before eating: It will help you control your appetite and be more mindful when eating.

Common anecdote: There’s always a guy who says, “Look, the sportsman eating dessert! That’s cheating!” Breathe, smile, and continue to enjoy. 😂

3. MORNINGS ARE YOUR GREAT SUPPORT

Before the celebrations fill your day, take advantage in the mornings to exercise.

– A short workout in DUIN: 30 minutes of strength training or a BURN HIIT circuit are ideal.

– Group classes: There is nothing better than the atmosphere of a BODY COMBAT or ZUMBA class to start the day full of energy.

– Outdoors: If you’re on holiday, take the opportunity to walk or run and soak up the Christmas atmosphere. Exercising early not only gets you active, but also makes you feel better when it comes to indulging in something over dinner.

4. PROPOSE ACTIVITIES THAT BENEFIT YOU AND THE REST OF THE GROUP

Spearhead the initiative so that meetings are not limited to eating and sitting.

– Organize physical activities: From a game of ping-pong to a competition of who can do the most squats (yes, it could be effective).

– Christmas Walks: Suggests taking a walk around the city to enjoy the Christmas lights and enjoy the Christmas spirit together.

– After-party plans: If you don’t want to give the impression of being too insistent during dinner, you can say something like: “How about we do something fun to stretch our legs tomorrow?”.

5. ENJOY WITHOUT REMORSE

Keep in mind that Christmas happens once a year, and it won’t determine your fitness progress. The key is to maintain a balance: enjoy the moments without letting go of your routines.

Message for reflection after a meal: “It doesn’t matter what you eat from Christmas to New Year, but your actions from New Year to Christmas.”

In short, being the ‘fit’ of the group doesn’t mean giving up on fun, but finding the perfect balance between enjoying yourself and staying true to your lifestyle. Bring ideas, set an example and, above all, don’t forget that these dates are also for relaxing a bit.
